Friday Favorites

I'm linking up with MomfessionalsGrace and Love, and A Little Bit of Everything to share my Friday favorites!

1.  The return of my favorite TV shows!

Oh, TV shows, how I've missed you!  The drought of terrible summer reality TV and reruns has gotten old, and I'm excited for my favorite series to return!  Modern Family, Scandal, Parenthood, Nashville, and Revenge, I'm looking at you.  If only Downton Abbey were back now too (so jealous of friends in London who are already getting to watch the new season!)

2.  New fall TV!

I swear I don't watch THAT much TV...but I love giving new series a "trial period" in the fall to see which ones are worth adding to the coveted DVR series recording list!  So far the only one that looks like a real possibility is How to Get Away with Murder.  Love me a Shonda Rhimes drama!

3.  My new plaid scarf

Plaid scarves are everywhere this fall!  While it's not cold enough yet in Dallas for me to feel that I can wear a plaid scarf in good conscience, I ordered this one from Old Navy and love it - it has so many colors that I think it will go with pretty much anything!  The color I got (shown above) is sold out online but might still be available in stores...although the burgundy version is still available online.

4.  HPUMC Moms

This week was the official kickoff for my church's new ministry for moms, which aims to "encourage and strengthen women in their role as mothers and leaders of the next generation".  This past Tuesday night was the first of a monthly dinner and speaker series; this month's topic was Overwhelmed.  I loved the message of encouragement and the discussion with several of the other moms from my Sunday school class who were at my table.  I can't wait for next month!  If you're local to the DFW area, you should come to the October event (Tuesday, October 28 at 7:00 PM at Highland Park United Methodist Church on the SMU campus.)

5.  My new rug for the playroom

After realizing how much baby stuff is already taking over our living room, we've decided to convert one of our extra bedrooms into a playroom to corral the toys (and the children when we have friends over).  My first objective was to find the perfect rug to design the rest of the room around; I wanted something modern and fun but not too "kid"ish.  Oh, and also cheap.  When I was hosting my friend Erin's baby shower last weekend, I loved the hostesses's living room rug...but I was pretty sure it was from somewhere like Pottery Barn.  I asked, and luckily for me, she said it was from Sam's Club (they sell rugs?!) and she had only bought it 2 weeks earlier (so there was a good chance they still had them).  I had to go to 5 different Sam's in DFW before I found one that stocked it, and then struggled to get it out of the store (while also pushing a stroller) and into my 4-door sedan (so maybe I didn't really think this purchase through), but now it's ours!  An 8x10 rug for only $100 is a win in my book!

    1. I found it at the Sam's in Addison (Beltline/Midway). It was the only one out but when I checked out, they said the system showed there were 2 more in stock (so they must have been in the back). This was yesterday around 3 pm!

  6. Stopping in from the link-up... Your church's mom's program sounds awesome! I think overwhelmed describes a whole lot of us, so that's a great place to start in ministering to moms. And I had to laugh about the rug story because I am constantly doing things like that, not really thinking through how to get something like that home with my two kids in tow, one who is in a stroller because he is just learning to walk and a 3 1/2 year old toddling behind. Have a great weekend!
